Room approximately 19’ L x 16’ W x 8’10” H. Back wall has two sets of french doors opening into a larger room. Walls and ceiling two layers of 5/8” sheet rock with green glue. Thanks
Thanks. I had some
lower frequency cancellation issues and the thicker 6” panels do a better job
w/frequencies <100hz. I used the free
REW (room eq wizard) software with a $90 microphone from amazon to confirm that
the room had dips in the 70hz area. The
REW software was also helpful with speaker placement. The fabric is one the Guilford of Maine
options called “Silver Papier 538”.
Hi, Thanks for the compliments. Yeah, while the room is far from
theoretically perfect…I guess, ideally it would be a little deeper relative to
the width with higher ceilings, but from what I had to work with it turned out much
better than I thought it would. It’s a
really comfortable size and in the end sounds great. I was already pretty happy with it prior to
adding the GIK treatments, but room acoustic treatments really are worth it and take it to a
different level.
Hi, thanks. I’ve only
owned the Sasha 2s for a few months but from the first couple tracks that I listened
to at home I was amazed (and relieved since I had only previously listened to
them in a different environment with very different SS equipment)…and that was
prior to messing around with positioning.
I completely agree that positioning matters a lot, although for me that
has been the case with other speaker I’ve owned (SF Liuto, Sophia 3, NHT 2.5), especially
when the room isn’t great which is often the case. I’ve only had this dedicated room for 6
months or so. Prior to re-finishing our
basement my 2-channel set-up was always in a family room type of space.
I’ve owned the amp and dac for 3-4 years and both have been
in the “keeper” category for me. I’ve
gone through a few equipment/cable changes over years and this is by far the
best sounding system I’ve owned. It’s
very enjoyable to listen to on all types of music even lessor quality
recordings. I’ll try to give more
background on what I’ve tried and owned at some point. Thanks
Hi, thanks. The P5 was somewhat necessary in my case. The Synthesis amp fuses don't have much tolerance for voltage significantly above 120 and our line voltage runs high...typically around 125/126 and I've seen it as high as 129.
So, the P5 is the perfect solution for me since converts AC-DC-AC it allows me to specify the output voltage to a steady 120. I haven't done much in the way of a/b comparisons with and without as far as noise/sound quality goes. However, I can say that it works great and provides a good deal of protection for my amp and DAC.
correction to my first post...meant to say "the traps on the FRONT wall"...not the back wall. I don't have any treatments on the back wall given the two sets of french doors...there isn't much back wall space.
Thanks. The ALPHA
panels made a nice improvement but it’s hard to say if it’s simply from having some
decent absorption at the first and second reflection points or if the diffusion
is also helping a lot. It’s probably both but I suspect the added absorption
is what I’m benefiting most from. I’ve
put together a few different systems and it still amazes me how much room specific
acoustics matter…as well as positioning.
The traps on the back wall were a major improvement in flattening out the
frequency response in the lower-end while preserving stage depth despite moving
the speakers a bit closer to the front wall for optimal bass response. Prior to installing the traps there was more extreme
give and take on bass response vs. stage depth when experimenting with speaker
positioning.
