Thanks Ozy.

Wow, on multiple measurements. I am surprised that they need to be so far from the front wall, and more surprised that they are only 5.5 feet apart. That's good to know. I guess they need a lot of room to breath on all sides. I have read several times that the Utopias are very easy to place well and are very forgiving. Sort of the opposite of the Raidho.

With 5.5' between and 11' to your seat doesn't your soundstage have a relatively narrow width? That's a relatively acute angle between speakers at 11' out. No?

I'm sure you have played with speaker placement and seating position extensively and thus attain the best sound possible in your room. I guess I was expecting the speakers a but further apart.

I'm glad I asked.

The speakers are about 11' from the front wall, approx 5.5 ' apart.

I sit about 11' from the front of the drivers.

Oops. Just checked the email. 35x15x10

mattnshilp

Thanks.

What is the geometry of your speaker setup, if I may ask?

How far are speakers from each other, from side & back walls?
How far are you sitting from speakers?

If I remember, you said your room was 15x23x9. Is that correct?

Congratulations -it is going to be a great sensory experience with the 911s/077!

Music server's technology is still evolving and its best is yet to come... inmh.

Thank you sir!

ozy

Thanks Ozy!

I took your advice. 911mk3's it is. I'll save up and when I can move to two 909mk5's I will. I spoke to an old timer Audiophile who frequently plays with Uber gear (MBL, Burmester, Goldmund, FMA) and he said that a pair of 911mk3's will, by the fact that they are physically separate amps, provide better stereo separation/more defined imaging/wider soundstage, but not significant. The stereo 909mk5 will provide slightly (very slightly) improved dynamics and more refinement. The refinement, the subtlety is the advantage. And of course monoblock 909's give the best of everything.

I'm waiting for the right music server. Maybe the 111. I think the next gen will be the ones for me to step in.

Thanks for your advice.

Enjoy your system. It's marvelous.

As mentioned, elaborately, in my email exchange with you of few days ago, the 911s would be a great choice.
Sorry, i don't have any experience with the 069- i went with the dcs vivaldi and never looked further.
Agree, the focal stellas are indeed amazing, & make everything i had prior sound as if they were broken....

ozy

Hi Ozy,

I am in the process of transitioning over to Burmester 077 and 911mk3 monoblocks. I am curious if you tried the 911mk3's before going with the big gun 909's? I have heard that while the 909mk5's have limitless power and punch, the 911mk3 can be a tad more musical and engaging. Any thoughts or experience?

Also really curious if you have yet tried the 069 (or 111)? I know you need SACD, but I'm very curious how the 069 ranks compared with your DCS gear!

Thanks. And I love those speakers! For my 15x18.5x9 room I think the Stella EM is my next step up; although my current Vienna Acoustic Der Muzik speakers are quite spectacular in their own right. :)
happy listening.

icorem, sorry for the late reply. have been traveling lately. i only use the vivaldi stack utilizing the transport as the music source. did a head-to-head comparison between high resolution files and an actual disc of the same content, and the disc(sacd and redbook) sounded way better then the highres files. so no computer music for me yet.
hope this helps.

ozy

Hi Ozy

I own a vivaldi dac + scarlatti upsampler and clock and i'm thinking going to a vivaldi upsamler in order to use it as a streamer connected to a ripping NAS controlled by the vivaldi app. Do you use it also as a streamer or do you use the transport only as a digital music source ?
if you do - cn you share your thoughts? Thanks

dear jake-- very nice to hear from you ,as always. all's well here and my system is still very enjoyable.
from my understanding, the 948 unit is designed to eliminate the dc upcharge from the line. you can switch it off and compare the with and without pretty easily.
the accuphase is a voltage stabilizer and does it very well , and quietly. between the 2 , i'd give the advantage to the 948, in terms of sonics improvements and overall "conditioning".
was never a fan of the Q10 wall unit and did consider it once, only to pass.
the amps are better suited to go directly into the wall(preferably a 20 amp dedicated outlet). have not found to date one conditioner that didn't compromise the performance of an amp plugged into it.

ozy

Hello my friend!

Tell me if you are happy now with the 948 and if you did not have the Accuphase would you have bought 2 948's?

I want something that does not end up on the wall like isotek, a Q10 or other sub wall panels...Do you plug your amps into these as well.

Thanks for your time Ozy and as always hope all is well with you and yours!

Hey BFlowers - congrats! I have heard the Vivaldi...I really like it. I had considered trading in the Zanden for a Scarlatti full stack and passed in the end, preferring my full Zanden stack which I've tweaked to the nth degree. But the Vivaldi represents for me a different generation/leap that really does combine organics with dynamics and detail. Enjoy!!!

Bflowers--Glad to hear that you like your dcs vivaldi- it will get even better with constant use and break in.
it is by far the best current digital playback system.

ozy

It took about 4 weeks but now I can say I can't imagine a better source. Unbelievably detailed, yet organic. I was a bit concerned, now I'm thrilled.

bflowers

Owner
Bflowwers-- i'm using 3x 1.5 m siltech golden eagle 2s, bnc to bnc.
how do you like it so far?

ozy

What are you using for clock cables? I have heard these matter quite a bit. I've had the Vivaldi for about a week. Still using the ones in the box until I decide what to pick.

bflowers

Owner
yes, the ones that particularly sensitive to jitter would be the clock and the dac.
The bnc cables are used to sync the components with the clock, and i'd venture to say that they were picked in that termination manner, by design.
All of the components are sensitive to power cords flavors/termination and construction, inme. but as you move up stream it becomes less noticeable/critical. starting with the transport and on, all the way to the preamp will yield the biggest bang -for the buck- again, inme.power cords to the amps will improve the sound, but less so as compared to a good power cord to the transport.

ozy

Did you find particular components (clock, upsampler, etc) more or less sensitive to digital or power cables? I was surprised to hear some folks say that the BNC cables had a big impact.

bflowers

Owner
As evidenced from my product listing i'm a fan of the Siltech cables. having tried quite a few of the latest offerings from some of the more visible cable companies out there, i found the Siltechs to provide the quietest background and most musical rendition of them all.
the Vivaldi stack requires quite a few digital cables and i have a mix of the Siltech golden ridge 2 and golden eagle 2.
The Power cords to the stack are the Siltech double crown.
