Dave, thanks for the rec on 60hz. Ive been keeping it there the past week and it really sounds good. Good call buddy!

Ill give that a shot. Blending sub/sats always kind of sucks to do. I couldnt get the paradigm/velo combo dialed in worth a crap. This combo is pretty smooth. Im keeping the subs about 1/3rd the way up, works pretty good that way, i dont get much bloat on them. I think the crossover on the sub will go down to 40hz, if not, i can just turn off that crossover and use the one in the Denon.

slappy

" the Velo and 707s's blend so well that it doesent SOUND like there is a subwoofer, but the low extention is definatly there."

As it should be, one of the reasons many people have a problem with blending subs is their natural instinct to turn up the sub untill they can hear it...now they know it's on!

If you have 60hz X-over setting, try that also. If it works you would have more freedom with sub placement.

Hah, a WOLF in SHEEPS CLOTHING!

Those 707s's are actually 92db, they do offer pretty good bass responce that is for sure. I have a pair of Velodynes crossed over at 80hz and they blend in very nicly. In fact, with music, the Velo and 707s's blend so well that it doesent SOUND like there is a subwoofer, but the low extention is definatly there.

slappy

Well, at 91db I would think 50 watts or less would reach very high spl's. With their extended bass responce a sub should be very easy to mate-up in the future. You know you will add one anyway if your a hometheater buff!

" Heh. You tube guys are all the same! "

Tube guys? LOL...I'm runnin Krells! (I do have a tubed pre-amp though, does that count?)

Heh. You tube guys are all the same!
Not a bad idea though... If i went with tubes what should i consider for minimum power? This has to pull double duty as HT as well as music. I know wattage doesent tell you everything, and i know even less about tube amps.
Any recs?

slappy

Here is your chance to try tubes, won't need a lot of power with those.

Welp, i got rid of the Paradigms. I think that was the shortest amount of time i ever spend with a speaker. The 9SeMKIII's just werent for me. Currently my friend is using them and is going to buy em off of me for about what i paid.

The Denon POA-2800 is out of the system cause it was a POS. It sounded great, but it is suffering from some technical problems. When included into the system it made the drivers stand out about 1/4 inch constantly. My impression is that is a BAD thing.

The new addition is a pair of JM Lab Chorus 707S monitors, and let me say i really like these. I bought them used from a local dealer about a week ago for 488 bucks, along with a pair of 16inch Stand-design speaker stands which have been filled and bolted to the 707s.

So now im just powering them with my Denon AVR-3805.
Hopefully in the next several months or so i will be able to free up a grand and get a good amp to go with these.

All in all im really pleased with the way the 707's sound with the 3805. I recently had about a week off and spend quite a lot of time listening to music. More than i did with the Radioshackers or Paradigms.

Any reccommendations for a good amp to work with the Chorus 707's for under 1k new or used?

slappy

Owner
yeah... i was a day late and a dollar short for the 3.3's.

slappy

So you ended up with Paradigms instead of the 3.3's, huh? I was about to respond to your 3.3 thread from back in August ... a little late to the party ;-)

inscrutable

Owner
Heh... naa, they have served me well for a pair of $10 garage sale speakers. they will probably find thier way out to the garage for a system out there.

slappy

Slappy, are you going to burn the Radio Shackers?

audiobugged

Owner
yeah, subs were about a month ago i think

slappy

Congrats on the Paradigm Slappy. Looks like you have added some subs also (or at least not long ago?).

System edited: SYSTEM UPDATED. Got some Paradigm 9seMkIII's Overall, they kick the living crap out of the old radioshackers ever way imaginable. This rig is about to the point where im gonna leave it alone for some time. I want to replace the center channel still, but other than that im gonna take a bit of a break from spending money on my system. Unless of course i have an extra couple bucks and find a killer local deal.

slappy

Gunbei, Slappy probably had a hazmat spill (now that he's single) while searching for chicks on www.Gothmatch.com?

audiobugged

Owner
God, thinking of psycho babes, i was at my favorite local bar and found the chick who mauled me the other night, all over some scrubby loser.
Man, the claw marks havent even healed on ME yet!

Slappy got... played?

Well, somehow i think i still came out on top. (laugh)

slappy

What happened? Did one of your Psycho Babes destroy your computer when she swung into it while being twirled in the Japanese Sex Basket?

gunbei

Owner
yeah uh, my computer took a serious dump. I need to just replace it, canot do anything with it anymore.

im forced to use an alternate method for a'gon now.

Once i re-carpet the basement and upgrade my speakers i will look into another computer. :P

slappy

Hey, we are all still waiting for some fun pics, lets get going OK?

Happy Listening.

bigkidz

Slappy, I'm keeping my toes crossed for you, that all will be smooth from here on!!!

System edited: Welp, Here is an update. I picked up a pair of Velodyne DLS-4000s and some audioquest cableing for about $500 under MSRP. So far i like these subs, but i just put them in and really have not had a chance to listen to them. The right velo is connected to the LFE off then Denon 3805, and the Left Velo is connected to the pre-outs for the main l/r channels. I had to disconnect my amp for this setup, but the thing has been acting up on me latley. All i can say is it is a MASSIVE improvement over that stupid little sub that came with the HTIB i bought to get me by after i had to sell off my last rig. Next upgrade will probably be the main speakers, or the center channel. I have been trying to upgrade from the weakest link and up. Right now the radioshackers sound way better than the center channel. The center is just small and shitty, it gets somewhat unintelligable with male voices sometimes, so i SHOULD go ahread and replace that next cause i like to watch movies, however, i think i will probably do the speakers next. It is still nothing fantastic, but it is definatly getting better. Im really not too worried about HIGH-END on this rig, this will just be my HT setup, and personally for HT Mid-fi is fine with me, still beats any cineplex. When i start on my 2 channel rig, i will alot a higher budget. So here it is folks. Bad roomate choice, get evicted, sell off rig to pay costs, buy HTIB, stasis for almost a year, then the girlfiend leaves me and all of the sudden i have money to upgrade the system again.

slappy

Yeah, like Nrchy said!

Where's that pic of you in your DEVO pose??!!!!

gunbei

Owner
I will. Gotta get some more up-to-date photo's going. will probably have them up in a couple weeks, once i get my computer running and a wireless adapter so i can get back on the net.

...

i know what yer wondering...
dont ask.

-grin-

slappy

BRING BACK THE PICTURES you psycho!
