Description

It is now 2015 and I have finished my Lamm Signature Triad(ML3,LL1,LP1)It is without a doubt the finest I have seen or heard,I am done with electronics.I am still using the Avalon Isis,it just grows on you and never gets old.I am still up to date on my Walker MKV,I added the oiless and carefree compresser, what a dream.I added a second Troy signature for the ML3s and it works superb,I also am using 4 Thor SE grounding cables in the system and they are a tremendous achievement.I am using Dalby audio single and Duo isolation feet under all my components, they are a component unto themselves. And last but not least the latest and greatest Elrod Diamond cabling to tie it all together.I almost forgot the MD 809 Internet Tuner,a real work or art.

I will add new pictures in a short while.

Hi Audiocrack,Rushton is right the feet on the Walker are pretty good.I check my level every 6 weeks and sometimes it needs a slight adjustment and sometimes it don't,but I am a perfectionist and the amount it is off is slight.
You probably have a bad foot, call Lloyd and he will help you with it,he is tops in customer service.

Robert

strapper211

Audiocrack, it sounds like you may have a slight leak in one of the air bladders in the footers. I own a MkIII as well and have not had any problems with the level changing once the pump was up to pressure. However, a fellow owner had this problem after a number of years and it turned out that one of the bladders had developed a slight crack and was leaking. Lloyd provided a replacement and the problem was solved.

Thanks Robert. I indeed own the black diamond mk iii. One other question: after a certain amount in time the air flowing through the feet under my table apparently change in such a way that afger a while the table is no longer level anymore. Quite annoying I must say. Are you experiencing the same?

Hi Audiocrack,
After Lloyd and Fred did the update I noticed how even the sound became from the lowest notes up to the highest without any signs of compression or lack of dynamics or transparency or detail.
It seems to tie everything together on the Black Diamond, when you adjust the VTA for a certain record it is so easy to hear when it is right,it just locks in air, detail, impact, soundstage. It is so easy to hear now.
Going from a 120 gm to a 160 or 180 gm. is a snap. Before the update I use to have to fiddle around till I was satisfied now it is very easy.
The Walker V is a tremendous table,if you have the series 3 getting it updated will make you very happy.
Robert .

Hi Robert, could you please comment in some more detail about the differences between the Walker BD mark iii and mark v.

audiocrack

Interesting. Thanks for the feedback Strapper! I’d just note that I’ve tried any variety of NOS tubes in my CAT Ultimate—including various Siemens, Amperex and Telefunkens—and have found that they always result in a marked step back in sound quality from the stock tubes. It’s counterintuitive, I know, but in my CAT, stock tubes always sound much better.

Hi Tfrumweiller,

The Legend I have was one of the first ones made,I guess that would make it about 5 years old.I use NOS tubes I got them from Andy at Vintage Tubes in Michigan.I believe he has some Telefunken and Amperex tubes in there, but he made the set up and he is very good. They are about 2 years old.The CAT Legend is Awesome and for the price cannot be beat, but the Lamm is a different beast on the phono.I am using the CAT Legend line with the Lamm phono now but I think I am going to get the Lamm LL1 and complete the front end.I have had CAT for 20 years and never really gave Lamm a listen but it is really serious stuff.

Very interesting about this new Lamm Phono stage! I've been thinking about buying a Legend since I heard one a few months ago and was blown away, as it was the latest top ARC rig we compared it to! Now, I'm wondering about this new Lamm. Your Lamm is obviously new, but what about your Legend? How old is it? Does it have CAT tubes in it or NOS? If NOS, then what type? How old are the tubes? Thanks!

Hi Jfrech, first let me say I am so jealous of your room.It is the room I always dreamed of,great job and a great system. The Lamm LP1 Signature is a superb phono, the best I have ever heard.I have tried for years to find something to bypass the CAT phono and use a dedicated phono but I had tried everything and something was always lacking. The LAMM gives you everything the CAT does and so much more in terms of air and dynamics and timbre of instruments. This is going to be in my system for a long time.

Hi Siddh, please e-mail me at [email protected],I will tell you about the clamps.I will tell you this the Lee Dalby Clamp is 3 lbs.

strapper211

So you HAVE to tell us how your new Lamm phono sounds ?!? Congrats on your additions !

jfrech

Hi Strapper, please let me know how the Lignum record clamp compares to the Shun Mook. I had been using the Shun Mook on my Walker table for a couple years, until I noticed the Shun Mook was not flattening the lp, as required to maintain an in-the-center ride within the vinyl groove. I have since returned to the Walker clamp.
Thanks, Steve

Hi Audiocrack,

I have not personally heard the new statement amps but between people I talked to at the show that Ken displayed them and talking to Ken himself I am assured that the difference is not subtle.
I will eventually move up to them but I have been very busy the last 6-8 months, but it seems like a no brainer.

Regards Robert

strapper211

Hi, was wondering if you ever considered and/or heard the statement amps of Ken Stevens. Is there a big difference, sonically speaking, between your jl3 cat amps and the statement amps?

audiocrack

Beautiful speakers!! actually your entire setup is beautiful, well done sir!

Hi Audiocrack,

I have not noticed much difference in the way of dynamics or bass performance. But it does seem faster and portrays a much cleaner window to the music,So you able to hear the bass fundamentals more clearly and the clarity of the music brings out the color of the instruments much better.

The only cartridge I have used is the Koetsu Coralstone Platinum Diamond.

Robert

strapper211

Hi Robert,

I appreciate your comments regarding the differences between the Walker black diamond mk II and mk III turntable. You mentioned better transparency, a wider (or mybe deeper?) soundstage and more micro information. I wonder whether there are any chances regaring dynamics, tonality and bass perfomance.
Furthermore, did you try different cartridges on your table?
regards, audiocrack

Strapper: Thanks for your reply; the ICs and Speaker cables are unlike anything I've heard over all the years of trialing and owning many high-end cables. Elrod has put a definite tour de force set of entries into the SOTA powercord, speaker and interconnect market...most importantly, I love the way they sound and how they show me the true capability of my system!

Hi Zephyr,

I am very happy and content with the system as it is now.The Avalon Isis and Convergent Audio Amp and Pre-amp are like a match made in heaven. The Walker Black Diamond 3 table is a work of art and a pleasure to operate and listen to.

The Elrod cables especially the Diamond line, which is so far ahead of anything on the high end market,it ties the system together superbly and lets all the components put their best foot forword.

I looked at your system and you have a tremendous synergy going on there.I know you are enjoying the Elrod Gold Signatures and Gold Statements. They are a Tour de Force in their own right.

Robert

strapper211

Strapper: You have put together one hell of a great looking and (what must be) sounding system. The Elrod cables bring tremendous realism, energy, amazing and huge soundstage and musicality to anything they touch; I can only imagine what the Diamonds must be doing for your system given what I know the Statement Golds are cable of. Well done!!!

Hi Audiocrack,

Lloyd updated a already superb design and fine tuned it to perfection. The soundstage was already great on the Walker but now it is world class, the seperaton of instruments and blackness between the instruments is much more pronounced.Transparency is better than before and I thought it was maxed out,but I was wrong.

The micro detail and layering of the music is turned up a few notches. One thing the Walker is so revealing now small mm changes in the VTA are easily audible. So it is worth the minute or so to fine tune the vinyl when you put it on,it is very easy with the update.

Hope this helps.Happy Thankgiving.

Robert

Hi Robert,

I found your remarks regarding the upgrade of the Walker Black Diamond Table to the mark III version interesting. Could you please describe in somewhat more detail what the update did for the sound compared to the mark II version?

Hi Rob,I still love everything about the Isis.Have never been tempted to trade it on any speaker I have heard.

Robert

strapper211

Robert, I agree with your approach. With the Isis, there is no need to wonder about the rest. Instead, it is best to enjoy, tweak, and refine. These speakers become more impressive each year.
